These days, women spend a huge percentage of their lives at work, and have little time for getting ready in the mornings. But Models Direct say that the power of one’s image should not be underestimated, as it has a direct impact on how seriously you are taken by others, and the kinds of networking opportunities you will have in the workplace.

Dressing for the office, Models Direct say, can be quite the challenge. Whether you’re hoping to portray the kind of professional appearance that will clinch a deal with a difficult client, or get you a raise, the way in which you present yourself will undoubtedly influence how successful you are in your career. In this article, Models Direct offers some tips on how to look your best when you’re working hard at the office.

When it comes to colour choices, Models Direct says that neutral and traditional shades should serve as the basis of your work wardrobe. Black is associated with seriousness, grey with being conservative and navy with trustworthiness. If you want to add a pop of bright colour in, consider using deep jewel tones, such as burgundy and emerald green. White will of course, play an important role too; a simple, crisp white blouse will go with almost any other piece of clothing.

During the summer months at work, you may prefer to opt for lighter colours. If this is the case, stick to pastels and neutrals, as bright patterns and prints are rarely seen as appropriate work wear. You can always add a dash of colour in with an accessory in your favourite hue.

When it comes to looking polished and professional, experts say that it’s all about paying attention to the details. Keep your shoes free from scuffs and dust, ensure that your nails are manicured and style your hair. Carry a spare pair of tights, so as to avoid unsightly runs, and make sure to keep your accessories simple, chic and stylish. As a final tip, Models Direct recommends keeping an ‘emergency kit’, filled with things like a compact hairbrush, breath mints, hairclips and a mini-umbrella.
